Laguna Golf Bintan
Laguna Bintan Golf Club, once neglected, is undergoing significant restoration, bringing this Greg Norman-designed course back to its best. Although the course is now open, work continues on the clubhouse, with completion expected by September 2016.
The course meanders through varied landscapes, including natural wetlands, virgin forests, and beachfront coconut groves. The front nine features undulating terrain, while the flatter back nine includes memorable holes, especially the par-3 8th. This hole requires a precise tee shot over a beach and rocky outcrop to a small, tree-surrounded green.
Challenges continue on the back nine, with a demanding finish from the 15th hole onward, where water hazards come into play. The course requires skillful tee shots and accurate approach play to navigate tight fairways and shallow bunkers. Players should also be cautious of monkeys that might steal unattended belongings.
Despite some ongoing issues, such as slightly slow greens due to seasonal monsoon rains, the course is showing marked improvement. With continued investment, Laguna Bintan Golf Club is set to reclaim its status as one of the top courses in the region.
