Khao Lak golf courses
Located just north of Phuket, Khao Lak in southern Thailand is an ideal destination for a golf holiday. True to its name, which means "jungle" in Thai, Khao Lak offers a lush, natural setting with three excellent golf courses to explore.
The standout is Katathong Spa and Golf Resort, set between three mountains: Khao Tao, Khao Nang Hong, and Phang Nga. This course, built on a historic tin mine site dating back to the 15th century, combines historical charm with modern golfing challenges. Designed by Somkiat Ratanarungsiwat, the course features narrow fairways, strategic white sand bunkers, and a natural reservoir. The stunning views are complemented by natural waterways and waterfalls, providing a serene and picturesque backdrop. Additionally, the Par 3 course offers an engaging and varied experience.
Next is Tublamu Navy Golf Course, initially a 9-hole course owned by the Thai Navy and expanded to 18 holes in the early 2000s. Located along the Andaman Sea, it features a links-style layout with occasional sea breezes adding a level of difficulty. While not as meticulously maintained as some resort courses, Tublamu’s scenic seaside location and challenging design make it a worthwhile visit for golfers of all skill levels.
Finally, Kirinara Golf Course, a 9-hole layout, offers another unique experience. Named for the river and mountain setting, the course features a mountain stream that adds to its tranquil ambiance. The course is designed to blend seamlessly with the natural landscape, featuring undulating terrain and varied hole lengths that present challenges for golfers. Well-maintained and visually stunning, Kirinara is a must-visit for its beauty and interesting play.
Khao Lak also offers a variety of cultural and leisure activities, making it easy to combine golf with relaxation and exploration.
A brand new addition to the Phuket golfing scene Katathong Golf Resort near Phuket is located about one hour north of Phuket airport in a beautiful jungle-clad valley. Some very unusual holes and well worth playing.
Aquella Golf Resort and Country Club is situated overlooking the Andaman Sea at Thai Muang Beach, 40 minutes north of Phuket Airport. The 177-hectare development of the site includes a complete redesign and rebuild the of the former Thai Muang Golf Club as well as villas and a hotel. Work on the new course began in 2018, and the work was undertaken by Pacific Coast Design from Australia and is scheduled to open in 2020.
About 40 minutes from Phuket and not far from Khao Lak, you will discover an untouched part of the country and a wonderful golf course that is open to the public. Rustic in its design, Tublamu Navy Golf Course is owned by the Royal Thai Navy and although it was originally just a 9-hole layout, the course was extended to 18 in 2002 when it first opened its fairways to the public. It is set in the beautiful area of the Son-Ngam beach in Khao Lak province.
Thailand has become one of the top destinations in the world for those seeking a perfect golf holiday and Kirinara Golf Course adds to the appeal. The ideal mix of world class golf, facilities, beaches, culture and food make Thailand a golfer’s dream and Phang Nga Province is no exception.
