Southlinks Country Club
Southlinks Golf Course, located on Batam Island near Singapore, is an 18-hole championship course designed by Hisamitsu Ohnishi. The course is noted for its thoughtful integration of natural features, maintaining the island's environment while providing a challenging layout. Recent improvements include floodlighting for the final four holes.
The course opens with a straightforward hole but features well-protected greens. The second hole is a long par-4 with four ponds and a bunker-ringed green. The third hole is a shorter, uphill par-4, while the par-3 fourth is daunting with water and bunkers. The fifth, a dogleg par-4, demands a precise drive, and the par-5 sixth has a sloping fairway with water hazards. The seventh, a long par-3, is surrounded by eleven bunkers and ponds.
The back nine starts with a medium-length par-4, featuring a pond and a deep bunker, followed by a flat, birdie-friendly par-5 eleventh hole. The twelfth is a challenging hole with tall trees and waste bunkers. The thirteenth, a long par-3, often requires an extra club due to wind. The fourteenth is a driveable par-4 with mangroves and a bunker-protected green. The fifteenth is the toughest hole on the back nine, with ponds and a stream in play. The sixteenth hole features water hazards and bunkers, while the seventeenth is a challenging par-3 with an island-like green. The course concludes with a short par-5, offering a birdie opportunity for long hitters.
