Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club, designed by Arnold Palmer, offers an excellent option for budget-conscious golfers in Bangkok. Situated near the sea, this course is often cooled by sea breezes, making it an ideal choice for hot days. As the only Arnold Palmer-designed course in Bangkok, it provides a unique opportunity to play on one of his few Asian designs.
The course is known for its mature trees and vibrant flowers, offering a visually pleasing experience. While water hazards are limited, the wind can add a challenging element, requiring careful club selection. The course starts easily, with a wide-open fairway on the 1st hole, but quickly introduces challenges, such as the dogleg right 3rd hole with water and five bunkers guarding the elevated green.
The back nine also presents opportunities and challenges, starting with a long par-4 dogleg. The 11th, the longest par-3 on the course, is often played into the wind, while the 12th hole demands accuracy to avoid fairway bunkers and water near the green. The par-5 13th offers a chance to reach the green in two if you can navigate its seven bunkers. The 17th hole is particularly challenging, with a narrow landing area and water hazards flanking the green.
While some fairways show wear, the affordable green fees and the course's unique design make Bangpoo Golf & Sports Club a popular choice among locals, offering a pleasant and accessible golfing experience.
