Blue Canyon Country Club, Canyon Course
The Canyon Course at Blue Canyon Country Club is Phuket's premier championship course and has hosted the Johnnie Walker Classic three times, including Tiger Woods' 1998 victory. This course, renowned as one of Thailand's best, winds through an abandoned tin mine and dramatic canyons, offering a memorable golfing experience.
The front nine features narrow fairways and fast greens, providing a challenging start. The course intensifies on holes 11 through 15, with the par-5 11th being particularly tough, requiring precise shots over water and marshes. The 12th hole offers a stunning approach over water, and the 13th is famous for Tiger Woods' impressive drive, though par is a notable achievement here.
The back nine includes two remarkable par-3s: the 14th requires an elevated tee shot to an island green, and the 17th, praised by Gary Player, demands a long carry over water to a pin protected by a large bunker. The round concludes with a long par-4, with a challenging elevated green in front of the clubhouse, adding pressure to avoid a three-putt finish.
The clubhouse features a restaurant with a terrace view, a pro-shop, and on-site accommodation with a spa. Despite its aging locker rooms, the Canyon Course is a must-play on any Thailand golf holiday, offering a true test of skill amidst stunning surroundings.
