Eastern Star Golf Club in Pattaya, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is set on a former coconut plantation and offers a forgiving, links-style layout suitable for all skill levels. The course, framed by nearby mountains, features wide fairways with numerous bunkers and 11 lakes, but the coconut trees generally do not obstruct play.
The course benefits from cooling sea breezes due to its proximity to the Gulf of Thailand, making it a pleasant venue even during hot summer months. Its picturesque setting and intelligent design require strategic play, especially on doglegs where positioning is crucial.
Water hazards are a prominent feature, often lining one side of the fairways and becoming significant near the greens. The par-3 13th hole is notable for its challenging design, requiring a tee shot over water to a well-protected green. The par-5 4th hole also stands out, with a narrow landing area and water along the left side.
Eastern Star's quirky topiary, including a hedge sculpted in the shape of the FA Cup on the 2nd hole, adds a unique touch. While the changing rooms and restaurant are average, the course offers excellent value for money. Facilities include a driving range, swimming pool, and a nearby hotel with various apartment options.
