Muang Kaew Golf Club, conveniently located near central Bangkok and the new airport, is a popular choice for golfers with limited time. Redesigned by Schmidt-Curley, the course features Tiff Eagle greens and Paspalum fairways, ensuring excellent year-round conditions.
The course stands out with its well-guarded, often elevated greens, a rarity among Bangkok’s typically flat courses. Wide fairways offer some relief, but approach shots can be challenging due to high-lipped bunkers and shaved fringes.
Notable holes include:
- **13th Hole:** A risk-reward par-5 with a blind tee shot and a daunting carry over water. Even shorter hitters can challenge the green, but a 150-yard carry is necessary.
- **18th Hole:** A par-5 with a blind pond guarding the green, punishing any approach shots that come up short and right.
While the clubhouse could use updates, especially in the locker rooms, the restaurant offers excellent Western food, including top-notch grilled sandwiches and American breakfasts. The Pro Shop provides a good range of golf apparel at reasonable prices.
The course is easy to walk, with golf carts being optional. Experienced caddies enhance the experience. The main drawbacks are the lack of a driving range and the highway running between holes 12 and 13. Despite these, Muang Kaew remains a well-maintained and convenient option for a quick golf outing in Bangkok.
