Heron Lake Golf Course & Resort
Heron Lake Golf Resort, located about 90 minutes from downtown Hanoi, is a picturesque course named after the nearby lake. This resort-style golf course features extensive waterways and large "beach" bunkers, making for a visually appealing and challenging round.
Designed to offer a top-notch golfing experience in a serene environment, the course harmonizes with its natural surroundings. It is a wide-open layout with few mature trees, relying on abundant water hazards and strategically placed bunkers for protection.
The course starts with a straightforward par-4, featuring narrow landing areas between two fairway bunkers on the left and a small lake on the right. The green is also flanked by large bunkers on either side. The 2nd hole is another par-4, where the main challenge is the approach shot, with water guarding the right and back of the green, edged by a large beach bunker.
The 3rd hole, a par-3, requires a water carry to an island green, protected by a beach bunker on the right but with generous run-off areas. The 6th hole is a sharp dogleg right, with water running along the right side. A more aggressive tee shot will make the approach easier, but the green is well-guarded by a large bunker on the left. The 7th hole is a long par-3, demanding a tee shot over water, with a huge beach bunker protecting the front left of the green. The front nine ends with a challenging par-5, featuring a lake on the right and a stream crossing the fairway, with bunkers guarding both sides of the green.
The back nine begins with the 11th hole, a sharp dogleg right with water along the left and bunkers waiting for errant shots to the right. The 12th is a straightforward par-3 if the club selection is correct, with large bunkers on either side of the green. The 14th is a tough par-4, with water flanking both sides from tee to green and deep bunkers nearly surrounding the green. The 15th hole's main challenge is the water crossing the fairway about 100 yards before the green. The 16th is a scenic par-3 framed by local trees, with extensive bunkering in front of the green. The final hole is a great par-5, with a fairway surrounded on three sides by water, requiring a carry over another water hazard for the second shot and an approach to a green guarded by a bunker on the left.
